Ajax Factory
Factories are often viewed as purely utilitarian buildings, where function takes precedence over experience. This project challenges that perception by creating a manufacturing campus that is efficient, people-centric, and deeply connected to its landscape.
The brief called for a factory complex comprising an office, a training institute, and a large production shop floor three distinct functions that needed to maintain their own identity while coming together as a unified campus. Adding to the complexity was an irregular corner site with a 3.5-metre level difference.
The master plan transforms this challenge into an opportunity by organizing the site across two levels. The upper triangular plateau houses the office, cafeteria, cloakrooms, parking, and training institute, establishing a welcoming arrival experience while separating visitor and employee movement from the industrial operations. The office, cafeteria, and training institute are planned as a boomerang-shaped building, maximizing exposure to landscaped open spaces and soft north light. A series of interconnected landscape courts weave through the campus, creating a continuous green network that enhances movement, interaction, and visual connectivity.
The cafeteria opens seamlessly onto the landscape, offering employees a calm and refreshing retreat within an otherwise industrious environment. The shop floor adopts a standing-seam pre-engineered building system, designed to achieve five air changes per hour through passive ventilation, ensuring a comfortable and productive workspace
Every aspect of the campus, including its services and utilities, has been carefully integrated to maintain a clean architectural expression. Sustainability is central to the project, with a zero-discharge water management system supported by state-of-the-art ETP and STP facilities, alongside rainwater harvesting.
More than a factory, the project reimagines the industrial workplace as a cohesive campus where architecture, landscape, technology, and sustainability come together to create a better environment for work, learning, and manufacturing.
